Dynamic Sitting

What is dynamic sitting?

Dynamic sitting transforms sitting from a static posture or position to an activity with frequent changes of postures or subtle movements. We generally mistake sitting for a static state, a resting position of sorts for the body so that we can engage in a different activity – speaking, eating, reading, typing and more.

Although static sitting has become the norm over the years, we should not lose sight of its implications.

When sitting in a static position:

The body weakens
Stress points are formed along the spine and pelvis, which in time result muscle aches, posture problems and more. The pelvis, leg joints and central muscles weaken due to lack of use, which in turn cause the most common back problems.

The Body "Falls Asleep"
Circulation diminishes and along with it the supply of oxygen and nourishment to various limbs and the brain. The diminished movement of pelvic joints and legs impact the effectiveness of circulation to the internal organs of the stomach.

We fall asleep
We become less alert, hurtles vital and our attention span shortens.

In fact, we're not comfortable at all!
Do you also find yourself swaying back and forth on your chair trying to find a comfortable position? After sitting for a long time, do you also feel that you just have to get up and move around a little before you return to your chair?

If so, your body is probably asking for dynamic sitting!

While sitting dynamically

Everything flows
In dynamic sitting the spine, hip and leg joints are in constant motion.
This gentle movement promotes circulation and oxygen flow to all muscles and cells, making the body healthier and more flexible.

Stress turns from burden to massage Body weight does not increase in certain areas over time, but continuously shifts. Sitting becomes much more enjoyable and into somewhat of an internal massage, running through joints and muscles, each receiving gentle and soothing pressure that relaxes and rejuvenates.

And we wake up to life!
New studies show that people are more alert, focused and remember more clearly during movement. In other words, movement while sitting stimulates, rejuvenates and, in fact, helps us perform optimally! At a deeper level, the shift to dynamic sitting sends a message to our body to switch from passive to active, or between rigidness to flowing. This is a message of strength and flexibility.

So why sit dynamically?
Because it is what our body needs!

A final word about the way we sit:
Our modern lifestyle provides our bodies much less movement than it needs. Pay close attention to young children, they move constantly when not asleep.

Many of us feel the effects of being sedentary through the day and try to make up for it by working out, doing yoga and other methods of movement.
However for those whose lifestyle requires long periods of sitting, a one-hour workout a day (or week) offers only a fraction of movement through a day of being static,
FreeChair brings movement to the act of sitting and creates a succession of healthy movements. FreeChair allows us to give our body what it needs.
